32 players turned out on a very windy evening to contest the Pot Luck Doubles Tournament.
The evening commenced with the draw partnering up the players into pairs. this resulted in a number of promising partnerships for some players.
The pairs split into 4 groups so that each pair contested three matches. All matches played through the night were the best of 3 legs. The winner and runner up of each group going through to the quarter finals.
This shaped up as follows:-
Quarter Finalists
Alan Connelly / Alan Worthington v Phillip Mortlock / Stuart Taylor
John Monk / Tim Simms Baalham v Francis Webb / Pat West
Lewis Taylor / Thomas Bloomfield v Scott Boast / Steve Stolworthy
Chris Jones / James Crisp v Paul Mortlock / Adrian Key
After some close games the semi finalists were:-
Phil Mortlock / Stuart Taylor v John Monk / Tim Simms-Baalham
Chris Jones / James Crisp v Scott Boast / Steve Stolworthy .
Both semi finals were close affairs and could have either way. In the first semi final it was John & Tim who came out the victors beating Phil & Stuart 11 - 7, 9 - 11, 11 - 13 . So John and Tim go through to the final.
In the second semi final it was Scott and Steve who overcome Chris and James in another very close match. 9 - 11, 13 - 11, 7 - 11.
So the final was set between
John Monk / Tim Simms-Baalham and Scott Boast and Steve Stolworthy.
A cracking final where John, uncharacteristically overhit a couple of backhands and Tim found it difficult dealing with Steve's serve. Even so there were some outstanding rallies with all players capable of inflicting some damage with some effective looping. It was Scott and Steve who eventually came out on top after two straight leg wins, albeit with both legs extremely close, they ran out winners. 11 - 9, 13 - 11.
Congratulations to Steve and Scott Pot Luck Doubles Champions for 2015.
Good Luck also to Chris Jones who flew out to Brazil for three months on 18/11/2015 to kick start his new business. We all wish him well.
A well attended Pot Luck Doubles with some good humour, good matches and good table tennis.
